Thermo Fisher Scientific has rolled out its Gibco Cell Therapy Systems (CTS) Cellmation Software to automate cell therapy manufacturing workflows.

The Gibco CTS Cellmation Software is designed to connect and integrate workflows across several Thermo Fisher Scientific cell therapy instruments.

The automation solution digitally connects instruments to streamline and automate manufacturing while enabling cGMP compliance.

According to Thermo Fisher, the new solution can assist in reducing the need for expensive bespoke software projects and extensive validation. This saves time and money during the manufacturing process of cell therapy and facilitates the faster and safer delivery of these potentially curative therapies to patients.

Thermo Fisher Scientific cell, gene and advanced therapies vice president Betty Woo said: “As our biopharma partners continue to expand their cell therapy pipelines, CTS Cellmation Software enables digital integration of unit operations, helping to ensure reproducibility, traceability, and data security required for scaling cGMP manufacturing processes.

“This new software offers a fully validated, off-the-shelf automated solution to digitally connect and control Thermo Fisher fit-for-purpose instruments, ultimately helping deliver these potentially transformative medicines to patients more efficiently.”

The CTS Cellmation Software, driven by Emerson’s DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS), links Thermo Fisher’s cell therapy instruments through a unified, user-friendly interface, thereby minimising the need for manual interventions.

The software is said to facilitate 21 CFR Part 11 compliance with secure data communication along with traceability, and repeatability by establishing an automated workflow spanning several stages of cell therapy manufacturing.

Thermo Fisher aims to simplify the manufacturing process to benefit cell therapy developers.

The American biotechnology company said that all cell therapy platforms presently under development will also align with and connect to this digital, automated framework.

Currently, Gibco CTS portfolio products as well as other essential Thermo Fisher Scientific cell treatment devices are connected by the CTS Cellmation Software.
