Healthcare packaging company TekniPlex Healthcare has unveiled its plans to open a new 200,000ft2 production facility in Madison, Wisconsin, US.

Expected to be operational in early 2024, the site will be TekniPlex Healthcare’s second manufacturing plant in the city.

TekniPlex Healthcare said that the new facility will operate under the ISO 13485:2016 quality management system. The system validates that the plant will provide medical devices and related services to meet regulatory and customer needs.

The site is said to feature new manufacturing equipment to increase the company’s existing lamination capacity for materials like polyethene terephthalate (PET), nylon, paper, foil, PE, EAA, and ionomer, in peelable as well as non-peelable structures.

This will also reduce lead times and maintain quality, the healthcare packaging firm said.

These laminated and coated products are used for the pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostics end markets.

The materials can be used to make flexible foil and plastic pouches, contact lens packaging, blisters, and blister lidding, and sterilisable protective structures for medical devices, accessories, and procedural tools.

TekniPlex Healthcare CEO Chris Qualters said: “Our business has grown substantially across the medical device, pharmaceutical and diagnostics sectors, and the new Wisconsin location will help TekniPlex provide our customers access to the most advanced process technology and available capacity, solidifying our industry-leading quality and delivery.

“In addition to providing highly engineered products to ensure patient safety and outcomes, this facility also offers enhancement of our business continuity planning – a highly attractive benefit in an industry where supply risk mitigation is essential to guarantee lifesaving products are available when they are needed.”

Additionally, the healthcare packaging plant will have new coating and laminating equipment at the facility will increase capacity for a variety of goods, including coated Tyvek and reinforced papers.

The facility will also demonstrate new flexographic printing capabilities, expanding TekniPlex Healthcare’s portfolio of products.

Furthermore, modern technology will be applied to all newly installed equipment to reduce energy consumption and process waste.
