Boston-based clinical-stage biotechnology company Solarea Bio has launched Bondia, a daily medical food, in a private beta programme for women in the menopausal phase.

Bondia is a daily synbiotic capsule intended to address bone loss in peri- and postmenopausal women.

It is being launched through Solarea Bio’s consumer health brand, Journa, which focuses on introducing fruit and vegetable-derived microbes-based health products.

The medical food is naturally formulated and is currently undergoing clinical validation to manage the condition through dietary means.

Ahead of its expected public launch in September, the private beta programme will assess various aspects like ordering, shipping, and app usage to ensure a seamless rollout.

The Bondia medical food is said to offer a clinically backed solution for postmenopausal bone loss. It is formulated using probiotic bacteria, yeast, and prebiotic plant fibres derived from fruits and vegetables.

Currently, the medical food is in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 286 early postmenopausal women to support the private beta programme.

Solarea Bio CEO and co-founder Gerardo Toledo said: “Journa is creating a novel product experience with Bondia, its first product. The Complete Beta Journey aims to combine the synbiotic oral capsules, a mobile phone app and a DEXA scan in a unique experience.

“This will enable our customers to further take control of their menopausal journey by tracking their health with full body DEXA scans in combination with the app and oral capsules.”

The selected beta participants will have the opportunity to take the Bondia medical food programme at no cost for the entire two-month duration.

They will also be invited to record their beta journey and gain guidance through the dedicated Journa mobile app.

Solarea Bio said that people seeking a more immersive experience can opt for the Complete Beta Journey, which includes a year’s worth of Bondia supply and extended access to the Journa app.

Additionally, as part of a collaboration with DexaFit, and its location in the San Francisco Bay area, participants will receive a complimentary full-body DEXA scan at the programme’s start and end.
