KERN & SOHN GmbH is presenting the new products in its medical technology range at MEDICA in Düsseldorf on Stand B25 in Hall 9. From 13 to 16 November, the family business from Southern Germany will exhibit, amongst other products, the KERN Premium Line, a new product range of digital networkable balances, at the trade fair.

Seamless integration

Baby scales and personal floor scales, chair scales and wheelchair platform scales from the KERN Premium Line have several interfaces such as WLAN, USB, Bluetooth and Ethernet. This means that hospitals, medical practices and care institutions can integrate them seamlessly into their IT network according to individual needs.

Ease the strain on staff, accelerate processes

Patients’ weighing data can be transferred from any balance in the Premium Line into the digital patient records, wirelessly at the push of a button or using remote control commands, using WLAN for example. According to Julia Sauter, Category Manager Medical at KERN, this type of digitization of weighing data can bring numerous benefits for medical practices, hospitals and care institutions:

  • Processes are accelerated, because time-intensive manual data maintenance is not necessary and staff have access to the weighing data of patients within a few seconds.
  • Errors which can occur when entering weights by hand are eradicated.
  • The strain on doctors, nurses and receptionists in day-to-day tasks will be lessened: “A struggling baby on the baby scale requires the full attention of the paediatrician or nurse”, explains Sauter, “So it is handy if you just have to press one button on the scale to store the weight straight into the electronic patient records.”

The KERN Premium Line, which the family business is exhibiting at MEDICA, also includes the MPN 200K-1HM personal scale. All balances in this range can be individually integrated into any practice or hospital network. (Image: KERN)

Mobile, hygienic, easy to operate

As well as the capability of digital networking, all balances from the KERN Premium Line feature easy use and simple, hygienic cleaning. In addition, they can be used as a mobile device when required, with battery, mains adapter or an optional rechargeable battery pack. All models have approval for medical use in accordance with 93/42/EEC.

Personal scales are fitted with a parent-child function, which makes it easier to weigh a child in the arms of a parent: the first step is to determine the weight of the mother or father. Then he or she steps on the balance holding the child and the scale displays the weight of the child immediately. The KERN MWN wheelchair platform scale offers a HOLD function,

just like the baby and personal scales: with patients who cannot stay still when sitting,

standing or lying, the scale uses averaging to determine a stable weight and lock it in.

As well as medical balances, KERN is also exhibiting microscopes for medical and laboratory use at MEDICA.
