Fujifilm has introduced a real-time endoscope visualisation system, ColoAssist PRO, designed to aid endoscopists in colonoscopy procedures.

ColoAssist PRO facilitates accurate navigation of the colonoscope inside the patient and allows clinicians to visualise the configuration of the endoscope throughout the procedure.

It is the latest product from the company’s ELUXEO Ultra family of endoscopy technologies, following CAD EYE, an AI-powered colon polyp detection and characterisation function.

The real-time endoscope visualisation system is said to provide enhanced support to the operator and delivers a complete package for endoscopists, said Fujifilm.

Fujifilm Europe business manager Mat Tallis said: “Fujifilm’s new function, ColoAssist PRO, allows clinicians to see the endoscope configuration in real-time during the intubation, by reproducing a graphical model of the endoscope.

“The endoscope visualisation system has the potential to increase confidence and efficiency of endoscopists. It also has the potential to decrease the time needed for an endoscopy.

“ColoAssist PRO is just the latest addition to the ELUXEO Ultra family of technologies, which have the potential to generate a more efficient diagnosis and better outcomes for patients.”

The company said that its endoscope visualisation system leverages electromagnetic coils, integrated within the Transceiver Dish to generate an electromagnetic field.

The electromagnetic field is received by the dedicated colonoscope and the Hand Marker to determine the position of the endoscope’s coil.

The system reproduces a graphical model of the endoscope alongside the physicians’ endoscopic view after it was inserted into the patient.

With a new user-friendly interface and image centring function, ColoAssist PRO enables endoscopists to perform procedures without losing sight of the graphical endoscope position.

Also, its colour gradation function helps endoscopists to better identify overlapping parts of the endoscope to safely manoeuvre the endoscope, eliminating patient discomfort.

Moncton Hospital in Canada endoscopy director Robert Berger said: “Having used the new ELUXEO Ultra ColoAssist PRO, it offers the ability to manoeuvre the colonoscope more easily and clearly during the procedure and I believe this is beneficial to maintain comfort and help reduce the use of sedation.

“The technology is compact, easy to use and the ability to change the view on the scope handle is very convenient. In addition, ColoAssist PRO works well with the ELUXEO platform and CAD EYE, a colon polyp detection and characterisation function utilising AI technology, providing enhanced support to clinicians.”
