Taiwanese biotech company Boncha Bio has introduced a new solution for the health supplements industry, dubbed Candyceutical, to optimise delivery of nutrients.

Made from combining the concept of candy and nutraceutical, Candyceutical is a candy-like soft gel. The solution is designed to contain high-dose active ingredient fillings.

According to Boncha Bio, the gummy nature of these capsules makes them easier to swallow, and their high bioactivity and absorption rates contribute to their increased efficacy.

The advanced technology is intended to address the health supplement industry’s challenges in nutrient bioactivity and user compliance.

Boncha Bio managing director Alfie Tsai said: “We’ve revolutionised the supplementation landscape. Our candy-textured capsules are packed with active ingredients in the core filling.

“We utilise micro-carrier technology to ensure smaller particle size for better absorption rates.

“The result is a delightful consumption experience that satisfies the taste buds and encourages user compliance.”

Candyceutical is said to offer a new combination of taste and effectiveness in supplement use. It has been developed after extensive testing of more than 400 parameters and formulations by the company.

The health supplement maker said that these dosage forms enable pleasure chewing with easy swallowing and effective digestion by imitating the body’s natural vitamin absorption process.

Additionally, Boncha Bio has used flavour masking techniques to conceal the odours of the active components and make them more palatable.

To further improve stability and shelf life, the company has wrapped each candyceutical in sachets filled with nitrogen.

Tsai said: “We employ a low-temperature, low-pressure, low-water activity, and vacuum production line to maintain the effectiveness of active ingredients.

“This approach is particularly beneficial for challenging supplements like omega-3, known for their fishy notes or unpleasant aftertastes.”

In November last year, the Taiwanese firm signed a partnership with dsm-firmenich to advance the development of nutraceuticals with candy-capsule technology in Asia.
