Friend of the Sea recognizes KD Pharma Group’s leadership in sustainable sourcing

Friend of the Sea (FOTS), today awarded KD Pharma Group with its 2017 Sustainability Award in the Fish Oil category at the VitaFoods 2017.

The FOS certification program contributes to the health of the oceans by assessing and promoting sustainable fishing practices. Friend of the Sea recognized KD Pharma with this award due its proactive and driven leadership in sustainable sourcing of raw materials.

"It is a great honor to receive this award from Friend of the Sea." said Rene Kamminga, vice-president business development of the KD Pharma Group. "KD Pharma has the scale to have a significant impact and help set a high standard for the industry. A very large part of that is offering FOS certified products to our customers."

KD Pharma Group has been sourcing its raw materials from FOS certified suppliers since 2015. The company is the result of the merger between KD Pharma and Marine Ingredients last fall which formed one of the largest Omega-3 suppliers in the world. Today, KD Pharma Group has the most complete and versatile range of omega 3 product forms available for pharma- and nutraceutical applications providing both oils as complete Omega-3 containing turnkey solutions in softgel and liquid bottled form.

"KD Pharma Group has been a strong partner for FOS." Said Paolo Bray, the Founder and Director of Friend of the Sea. "With their commitment to sourcing sustainably, KD Pharma Group is having an impact in supporting the bio-diversity and health of our oceans."

Directly or indirectly, the livelihood of over 500 million people in developing countries depends on fisheries and aquaculture, but overfishing, including the taking of fish beyond sustainable levels, may reduce fish stocks and employment in many world regions. The FOS certification program contributes to the health of the oceans by assessing and promoting sustainable fishing practices.
