Dutch health technology firm Royal Philips has partnered with the US-based openDoctor to deliver an integrated radiology patient engagement platform.

As part of the collaboration, openDoctor’s real-time patient self-scheduling capabilities will be added to Philips’ patient management solution.

The platform is capable of transforming patient radiology scheduling, contactless registration and automated communications and education, using any connected mobile device.

It allows patients to select appointment slots according to their schedules while optimising staff and location availability at the same time.

Philips precision diagnosis chief business leader Kees Wesdorp said: “With patients becoming more active in their healthcare than ever before, openDoctor has built an impressive suite of access-to-care applications for radiology departments and imaging centres to help further enhance our Patient Management Solution, enabling us to bring fully integrated solutions to our customers and patients alike.

“Better prepared staff and patients can result in a higher proportion of first-time-right scans and subsequent diagnoses, leading to better patient outcomes and improved departmental efficiencies.”

Philips’ patient management solution is a part of Philips Radiology Workflow Suite and is designed to optimise radiology workflows.

It enables the communication between care providers and patients, and serves as a link to prepare patients for their appointments to help them follow the care plan, said the company.

Also, the cloud-based solution interoperates with EMR and is capable of sending automated messages via SMS, e-mail, voice, and paper mailings.

Philips said that the patient management solution has helped its partners improve referral conversion efficiency by 30%, reduced no-shows by up to 45%, and improved patients’ knowledge of their medical conditions.

Furthermore, the solution has played important role in screening patients for Covid-19 symptoms during the period of the pandemic.

openDoctor CEO Joe Marino said: “We are excited to partner with Philips in their commitment to redefine and revolutionise the radiology patient journey.

“For years, health systems have been impeded by archaic, manual processes such as phone calls and paper-based systems that plague administration departments.

“Now more than ever, digital transformation and automation have been thrust forward to meet the needs of operating in the Covid environment.

“Our combined solution will provide a comprehensive patient engagement platform that meshes together the needs of patients and the needs of health systems in a seamless workflow.”
