Nestlé Prepared Foods recalls Stouffer’s brand lasagna

Nestlé Prepared Foods Company, a division of Nestle USA, has recalled nearly 16,890lbs of Stouffer’s lasagna frozen entrées due to a potential allergy risk.

According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the company has initiated the recall after two consumers reported finding Stouffer’s Stuffed Peppers in their Stouffer’s Lasagna Italiano packaging.

The Stuffed Peppers include Worcestershire Sauce, which contains anchovy as an ingredient.

Anchovy is an allergen, and those with fish allergies should not consume this product.

The products that are subject to recall include 19 1/8-oz cartons of Stouffer’s Lasagna Italiano with a best before date of January 2014 and shipping cases of Stouffers DS STFD Peppers, each comprising 12 cartons that may be labeled as Stouffer’s Lasagna Italiano.

Each carton and case features the establishment number – ‘EST. 7991’, along with the package code ‘1349595513R’ or ‘1349595513S’.

No other package codes are affected by this voluntary recall.

Also, Stouffer’s Satisfying Servings Lasagna Italiano with the universal product code 13800-44709 is being pulled off shelves.

The products being recalled were produced on 15 December 2011, and were distributed to retail outlets east of the Mississippi River.

Consumers can locate the production code at the ‘proof of purchase’ panel, located on the right end flap of the package, below the ingredient statement.

Nestlé said that the problem may have occurred when the lasagna packaging materials remained in the packaging machinery when it began packaging stuffed pepper entrées.

However, FSIS and the company have not received any reports of adverse reactions associated with intake of these products.

Based in Solon, Ohio, Nestlé Prepared Foods is part of Nestlé USA, and has more than 7,000 employees.

Its frozen food brands include Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine, Hot Pockets, Lean Pockets and Buittoni.
