Merck has launched its LANEXO Lab Inventory, Safety and Compliance Management System, a new digital laboratory informatics solution designed for labs.

The new laboratory informatics solution is said to combine the application of data using a platform of software, data management tools and equipment that allows capturing of scientific data and interpretation for immediate use, as well as for future research and development.

Merck life science applied solutions head Jean-Charles Wirth said: “Today, 85 per cent of labs are using paper or Excel to manage consumables data, and 25 per cent of time is spent managing these data, taking scientists away from bench research.

“Lab efficiency is critical as it gives scientists more time to focus on their research and analytics work and less on administrative tasks, which ultimately leads to faster drug development. Our LANEXO System, with first-to-market features, underscores Merck’s commitment to advancing and commercializing laboratory informatics.”

LANEXO system expands the portfolio of digital lab productivity solutions from Merck

Merck offers radio-frequency identification (RFID) labels, capable of auto-registering open dates and calculating expiry dates. The digital data capture feature allows the LANEXO System to rapidly document lab reagent data in real-time.

The company said that digitalized inventory, expiration and storage monitoring would reduce human error and safety risks, improving the reliability and traceability of compliance documentation.

The new solution facilitates each reagent, including in-house preparations, to be instantly matched to a full audit report, within an experimental workflow.

In addition, the system allows for easy reagent identity checks, offers automatic alerts, prevents scientists from using expired reagents and minimises the experimental error.

The design of LANEXO System is said to facilitate easy setup and rapid integration into existing lab workflows, including mobile and web applications, along with use in highly regulated analytical and research labs in pharmaceutical, quality assurance or quality control and industrial testing.
