Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate, an arm of global agribusiness giant Cargill, has developed a new range of sustainable coatings and fillings.

The new coatings and fillings range can be used in confectionery, bakery, cereals, ice cream and various other applications.

Developed at its Center of Expertise for coating & fillings in Deventer in the Netherlands, the new product range offers UTZ Certified cocoa powder and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified palm and palm kernel products.

Opened in 2009, the Deventer facility is exclusively dedicated to the production of coatings and fillings.

The center’s technical services specialist team, in cooperation with R&D expertise from across Cargill’s various businesses, and the company’s European refined oils business, has included RSPO certified mass balance palm oil into the new coatings and fillings range, contributing to sustainable production of palm oil.

Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate managing director Jos de Loor said the company’s launch of coatings and fillings offering UTZ Certified sustainable cocoa and RSPO certified palm oil represents another step in its ambition to bring sustainable products to market.

The production of UTZ Certified sustainable cocoa for use in the new coatings and fillings has been done as part of the company’s Sustainable Cocoa Program, which targets to strengthen the cocoa supply chain for the future.

"They complement our wide range of fillings and coatings which include organic, reduced sugar, reduced fat in a wide variety of colours," de Loor said.

"We produce up to 150 recipes each month, tailor made to meet our customers’ requirements, and we look forward to offering our sustainable fillings and coatings as a further option", he added.

Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate offers the food industry a range of standard and customised cocoa and chocolate ingredients to be used in bakery, confectionery, and dairy applications across the world.

It has facilities in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Germany, Ghana, the Netherlands, the UK and the US.
