Aker BioMarine to share new findings at Vitafoods show

At the upcoming Vitafoods show in Geneva, Switzerland, May 14-16, Aker BioMarine will be on hand to discuss the most recent developments with the company and its ingredient brand, Superba Krill.

On the clinical research front, Aker BioMarine has new findings to share about its most recent cardiovascular study. This trial evaluated Superba Krill’s ability to lower triglycerides without raising LDL cholesterol in those who have borderline high or high triglyceride levels.

The company has also released new survey findings out of Europe’s leading supplement markets pointing to the need for omega-3 alternatives such as Superba krill, especially in the UK, France and Germany.

According to the survey conducted by Discovery Research Group, a large percentage of consumers who identify themselves as omega-3 supplement users are looking for an alternative to existing sources. This was the case for 55% of consumers in France, 66% of consumers in Germany, and 47% of consumers in the UK.

When it comes to omega-3 supplement usage, fish oil is the most widely used in all three markets, while usage of krill oil is low, but growing. In the US, krill supplements have grown dramatically in the Food, Drug and Mass market channel, now accounting for 12% of all omega-3 supplement sales.

"Krill supplement sales have exploded in the USover the last three years and we wanted to pinpoint why this market grew so dramatically. So we commissioned a survey to better understand consumer behavior," said Matts Johansen, COO, Aker BioMarine.
"It seems to be the much improved user experience of smaller, easier-to-swallow capsules and digestive comfort that resonate most with consumers in the US.Now we see similar sentimentsin Europe. There is a large percentage of consumers not being served by current omega-3 offerings, and Superba Krill can nicely fill this void."

At the upcoming Vitafoods show, experts will be available at the Aker BioMarine booth (#15059) to discuss the company’s recent consumer studies in Europe, its clinical research activities, and its sustainability initiatives.
