She is investigating the use of MRI in diagnosing cancer and predicting patients’ responses to treatment.|Researchers are looking for better ways to scan complex parts of the body, such as the lungs.|An apparent diffusion coefficient map derived from diffusion-weighted MRI of the lungs done in free breathing. An irregular tumour is visible (arrow) against the lack of signal (black) from air in the lungs.|Routine scans for lung cancer do not currently allow patients to breathe freely, so a new technique was needed.

Holmes was elected a fellow of the Institute of Physics in 2017.|New technology can detect blood vessels grown by a malignant melanoma.|VivoSight could save patients from the discomfort and distress of biopsies.|The laser tool provides live subsurface images of skin to a depth of 1mm.
